About us
We purchased Saugatuck Modern Farmhouse as our second home in 2014, and we still use it that way. We added the Douglas Modern Villa in 2020. Both houses are ones we stay in ourselves, with our own kids and parents in tow. That's why they're set up the way they are.
Our guests are mostly multigenerational families, groups of families traveling together, and large friend groups. We know this market well because we are this market. We are a family of five, with three kids aged 9 to 14. We have been coming to Saugatuck/Douglas multiple times a year for well over a decade.
Our track record
We have hosted 500+ groups over the past 10+ years, with a 5-star average across both properties. We are a VRBO Premier Host and an Airbnb Superhost. When you book with us, you know what you're getting.
We built this website primarily for our repeat guests, so they don't have to pay the 15–20% platform fees every time they come back. Learn more about booking direct here.
What we know about Saugatuck
We have been visiting this area for over a decade and hosting guests here since 2014. We have personally tested most of what we recommend, and fielded thousands of questions from guests about where to eat, what to do, and how to make the most of a trip here.
In the summer, our favorites are Oval Beach, Uncommon Grounds for coffee, Kilwin's for ice cream, and Phil's, Wicks Park, and Everyday People Cafe for dinner. In the off-season we stay in more, cook big family meals, order takeout, and enjoy the downtown businesses that stay open year-round. Fall and winter here are genuinely underrated.
That local knowledge is what's behind our 100+ Best Things to Do in Saugatuck guide — it's the guide we wish had existed when we first started coming here.
About the kitchens
Alex is an aspiring home chef, which explains the kitchens. Both are stocked well beyond what you'd expect from a vacation rental — grilling equipment, sous vide, cast iron, Dutch ovens, sharp knives, baking pans, food processors, blenders. Enough dishware and serving dishes to feed the full house with room to spare.
In town vs. on the water
One of the first questions we had when visiting Saugatuck was whether to stay in town or on the water. After years of visiting, the answer was easy. We went to the beach 3–4 times a week depending on weather, but we came into town multiple times a day. Both properties are in quiet residential neighborhoods — a short walk to downtown, and a short drive to Oval Beach.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Saugatuck/Douglas and will consider staying with Saugatuck Vacation Rentals.

What makes our Saugatuck Vacation Rentals homes unique
Saugatuck Modern Farmhouse is our first house in Saugatuck. Our guests are often multi-generational families, multiple families, and groups of couples. The house can comfortably sleep 12 guests. It allows good privacy for each guest, as well as many gathering areas. It is newer than the majority of homes available in Saugatuck; and it is configured with multiple private spaces / desks and premium internet service for those folks that can't stay unplugged from work for too long. Not sure what to do while you're here? We've been visiting since 2014 and put together a guide of the 100+ best things to do in Saugatuck and Douglas based on what we actually do with our own family.
Douglas Modern Villa is a recent addition to the “family”. The house was newly built in 2015, and we finished the lower level in 2020, bringing the house configuration to 6 bedrooms / 4.5 bathrooms. This house can comfortably sleep 15 guests. We really enjoy Douglas, MI and wanted a home that had a more modern style. The house offers plenty of outdoor space, including a yard, outdoor seating, and a great roof deck that overlooks the water. This property has an excellent game room, where we spend hours playing billiards, Foosball or darts.
One of the main questions we had while visiting the area, as I am sure many of you have, was if we wanted to stay in town or on the water. When we came to Saugatuck, we found that we would go to the beach 3-4 times a week, depending on weather, but we would come into town multiple times a day, so the decision was easy. Both properties are in excellent walking locations - quiet neighborhoods yet a short walk to downtown Saugatuck and downtown Douglas. Oval Beach is a short drive away.
